On Thursday, 14 July, while Officer Asanda Magwanya was on foot patrol, he heard a CIDC Cleansing staff member radio report that Foschini staff members were in hot pursuit of a suspect who had stolen clothing from the shop.
Officer Magwanya requested a description of the suspect and gave chase when he spotted him and finally apprehend him on Claremont Boulevard. Foschini staff had in the interim given up the pursuit.
The suspect, found to be in possession of stolen goods, was taken back to Foschini store, where Officer Magwanya was met with loud applause and cheering. Foschini staff who were grateful for his vigilance and quick action.
The SAPS were contacted and it was established that the suspect was in possession of stolen items of clothing valued at in excess of four thousand rand.
This arrest has earned Officer Magwanya the CIDC Officer on the Month Award for the month of July 2016.
