On the night of Thursday, 09 March 2017 the CIDC, SAPS, Law Enforcement, Club Watch and the Crime Prevention Coalition collaborated in a joint operation from 21h00 – 04h00 in the Claremont CBD.
The operation was on account of the UCT ” Freshers Braai”. First year students gather in their numbers at UCT and thereafter normally seek out nightclubs in the Claremont CBD and surrounds. There were only three nightclubs open in Claremont on the night in question, namely Tin Roof, Unik and Stones. Students had to wait in long queues for some time before they could gain entry.
The objective of the operation was to maintain Law and Order around nightclubs and to prevent students from becoming victims of crime.
Several metered taxies and private vehicles were fined when not adhering to the rules of the road.
Due to the large number of participants of the various agencies involved in the operation no serious incidents were reported.
The CIDC deployed their cleansing team around Main Road, Stegman Road and Central Street to clean plastic bottles and other waste around these areas.
