A 54 year old male (let’s call hm Bruce – not his real name) approached the CIDC’s office on Tuesday, 19 July seeking assistance into a shelter and later to return home to Nelspruit.
Bruce came to Cape Town four months ago looking for employment as there were no work opportunities in Nelspruit and ended up on the streets of Simons Town.
He was informed of the Claremont Improvement District Company and made his way to the CIDC’s office for assistance.
Carmen Bosman, CIDC Social Fieldworker, contacted a shelter in Simons Town and they were able to give him a place to sleep as part of their winter programme.
The CIDC’s ongoing assistance to Bruce includes aid with his transport to the shelter in Simons Town and helping him with the application and funding of an identity documentation since he is not in possession of an ID book.
The CIDC has also assisted by getting him onto shift work at Straatwerk and will be funding his transportation costs from Simons Town to Straatwerk’s office in the Cape Town CBD.
With the assistance of SAPS Claremont, the CIDC is looking at the possibility of re-uniting Bruce with his family.
