CIDC Social Outreach

On Wednesday 19 April 2017, CIDC Social Fieldworker, Carmen Bosman, assisted Jolene Brink (not her real name), aged 39 with an application for her Identity Document (ID) at Home Affairs.

Jolene* previously lived in an informal settlement but, when the structures were removed, she had nowhere to go and made her way to the streets of Claremont where she has been living for the past 18 months.

Jolene’s* desire is to find employment. However, without an ID card it makes it difficult for her to find work. She approached the CIDC via U-Turn and asked for assistance with the application of an ID card.

In terms of her ID application, the CIDC supported her by providing transportation to and from the Home Affairs office in Wynberg, financial aid for the application of her ID card and assistance in completing the documentation. Carmen Bosman supported her throughout the six hour process at Home Affairs.

The CIDC, via its Social Fieldworker, will be alerted by Home Affairs when the ID is available for collection.

Further assistance will be provided with the collection of Jolene’s ID. As soon as Jolene has her ID she will embark on her job hunting mission with the aim of coming off the street.
