On Friday morning 11 September at 05h50 CIDC Section Leader, Phumzile Xeketwana was doing a general patrol in the Claremont CBD when he noticed a fire escape door was open in Roscommon Road. He investigated and found a coloured male, carrying a large TV emerging from the fire escape.
The suspect was stopped and questioned about the TV, which he then dropped and started running in the direction of the Station. Section Leader Xeketwana informed all the CIDC Officers who gave chase. The suspect was caught at the Station Subway by Section Leader Xeketwana.
It was later found that the suspect had broken into a well-known restaurant in the area. He was arrested and handed over to the Claremont SAPS.
Well done to S/L Xeketwana for being pro-active and for raising the alert to make Claremont a safer place for all.
