The CIDC received a call from a clothing retail outlet in the CBD reporting two suspicious females in the store. Before the women in question left the store they were confronted by store staff on grounds of suspected theft but the two suspects refused to be searched.

A CIDC officer was on the scene within minutes of the call and the shop employees pointed out the suspects to him. He then followed the suspects and also called the CIDC Control room to contact Claremont SAPS, all the while keeping the Control Room updated on the suspects’ whereabouts.

When the SAPS arrived, the suspects were in another clothing outlet where they were approached by the SAPS officers in the presence of the CIDC Officer and searched.

Clothing from several retail outlets were found in their possession for which they had no proof of purchase. Several identity documents and other stolen goods were also found In their possession.

The suspects were taken back to the first complainant where the stock that was stolen from the store were identified by store staff. The two female suspects were arrested.

Kudos to the responsive CIDC Officer who will be assured of receiving the CIDC’s Officer of the Month award.
