The report below from the young lady herself:
My name is Nosiphenkosi Mpana. I was born on 24 November 1992 in Eliotdale in the Eastern Cape. I attended Weltevreden Primary in Samora Michell and Nelson Mandela High School in Cross Roads.
After school I started working at Zebro’s takeaway as a kitchen assistant for a period of one year. I resigned to join the Chrysalis Academy, where I participated in a three month programme specialising in Public Safety sponsored by the Department of Community Safety. During this period I completed my Security Training after which I was deployed to the Claremont Improvement District Company (CIDC) to gain experience in the areas in which I was trained.
At the CIDC I have learned that the Control Room is the heart of daily operations and received training in the various areas of operation: two-way radio communication, telephone procedures, computer skills and how to deal with complaints.
I was also given exposure to training in the patrol vehicles where I learned how to respond to complaints, participate in operations with Law Enforcement Agencies and how to deal with serious incidents like medical emergencies, accidents and incidents of crime.
The CIDC Social Field Workers have taught me how to deal with the homeless and homeless issues, while the Cleaning Division has informed me how to address cleansing concerns in the CBD.
During the month of February I was encouraged to submit an application for a position as a Security Officer with Securitas, the service provider to the CIDC which was successful. I am now permanently employed by Securitas and deployed at the CIDC.
I would like to thank the Claremont Improvement District Company for affording me the opportunity to serve at their establishment as a Chrysalis Student and their recommendations that afforded me the opportunity to become a permanently employed Security Officer serving at the CIDC.
