Cavendish Square has appointed Faizah Behardien as the new Centre Manager with effect from 1 August this year.
Behardien has a wealth of experience in the shopping centre industry, having managed two major malls within the city and has been a board member on the South African Council of Shopping Centres for eighteen years (Western Cape chapter). This experience, she believes, will stand her in good stead in her new position.
She commenced her career in retail as a Customer and Tenant Liaison and soon became Centre Manager of the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, Waterfront, a post she held for thirteen years. Following on from this, Behardien managed her own business as a Retail Consultant and has been managing Paarl Mall for the past eight years.
“Managing a Shopping Centre is not about bricks and mortar,” says Behardien. “It’s about people and relationship building, managing relationships with your staff, customers, tenants and service providers based on integrity, compassion and being shareholders in each other’s businesses.”
She believes in relating to the community and listening to what the customers’ wants and needs are within the retail environment. “Offering our shoppers convenience, a relevant tenant mix and a point of difference along with utilising all opportunities to grow, make changes and improve, are key to my approach to successful centre management,” she adds. Within Cavendish, Behardien hopes to offer customers a point of difference and to create a ‘one stop shop’ by rejuvenating and repositioning the Cavendish brand.
Behardien, who was recently invited to sit on the CIDC board, says: “I look forward to a long and successful partnership with the Claremont node
and will do whatever I can to contribute to making it a safer environment and limiting the destitute and homeless in the area.”
